Montreal — Construction of the new Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge reached major milestones in 2025, marking a pivotal year for this key infrastructure project connecting Montreal and Vaudreuil-Dorion via Highway 40.
Over the past year, significant progress has been made on both the westbound and eastbound structures, reflecting steady momentum on the site.
Major construction milestones
All 233 foundation piles required for both bridge structures have now been installed, securing the base of the future crossing. In addition, 29 of the 46 bridge piers are now in place, including 14 on each structure.
Another important phase is underway with the start of deck slab installation over the steel framework. To date, 377 of the planned 845 girders have been installed.
Highway 40 work progressing
Related work along Highway 40 is also advancing on both sides of the bridge.
• In Senneville, drainage work and deck reconstruction continue. This area saw a major phase shift, including the transfer of traffic onto the new westbound roadway.
• In Vaudreuil-Dorion, deck concrete pouring is ongoing and has now reached 47% completion.
A critical year ahead
The year 2026 will be equally significant, with continued deck construction and the anticipated opening of the first bridge structure, a key step toward improving traffic flow and safety along this strategic corridor.
