Teamsters Local 106 has announced the ratification of a landmark collective agreement with Midland Transport Ltd., covering 110 employees for a term of five years and five months.
Negotiated by Alain Michaud, Secretary-Treasurer and union representative with more than 42 years of service, the deal brings significant improvements. All employees – drivers and dock workers alike – will continue to be paid hourly instead of by mileage, a key advantage given the increasingly congested road networks in Québec.
Hourly wages will rise by a total of $7.16 by January 1, 2030, reaching $34.69 for drivers, $32.86 for dock workers, and $41.95 for double 53-foot drivers. The agreement also secures a 70/30 split on group insurance premiums, annual increases of $60 to the defined-benefit pension fund contributions, and uniform allowances of $655 in the first year and $550 in subsequent years. Additional enhancements to work premiums and team leader bonuses are also included.
According to Michaud, this agreement “will be the envy of the industry” and will inspire more non-unionized workers to join Teamsters Local 106.
