Every holiday season, a familiar yet magical story unfolds across North America: a truck driver sets out on a long journey to deliver one of the most iconic symbols of Christmas — the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

In 2025, that responsibility fell to Michael Porter, a dedicated flatbed driver with Swift Transportation. His mission was to escort Silver Belle, a magnificent tree harvested near Reno, Nevada, all the way to Washington, D.C.

After thousands of miles, community celebrations, parades, media chats, and countless conversations with families along the route, Silver Belle safely arrived at the Capitol — fully dressed and ready for the holiday season.

A complex transport and a cherished tradition

For more than a decade, Hale Trailer has generously provided the specialized trailer required for the job. Their custom 48-foot unit extends to 80 feet, enabling the safe transport of these monumental trees across the country.

Another indispensable partner: Kenworth, whose T680 once again proved its reliability, carrying the tree smoothly and efficiently from one corner of America to another.

The human story behind the haul

Beyond the logistics, this journey is deeply human. Michael Porter was supported every mile by his family and his wife, whose encouragement made this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible. He was also joined at the tree-lighting ceremony by Flatbed Director Chris Drowne, where they met Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

For Michael, this mission wasn’t just a delivery — it was a moment of pride, a professional milestone, and a memory his family will cherish for years.

A tradition that brings America together

Each year, the Capitol Christmas Tree project highlights the essential role truck drivers play — connecting communities, regions, and even the spirit of the holiday season itself. Thanks to them, a simple tree becomes a national symbol.

The 2025 edition will be remembered as a journey marked by dedication, teamwork, and the safe arrival of Silver Belle at its place of honor. A beautiful way to close the year.
