Ottawa — The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) are aligned in urging stronger northern border enforcement to tackle organized crime.
At its Annual Summit this week, the CACP issued a united call for urgent modernization of Canada’s public safety framework. Police leaders warned about the growing threats of human smuggling, illegal drug trafficking, and firearms smuggling — operations driven by organized crime groups exploiting systemic blind spots, outdated statutes, and digital platforms.
The CTA has long advocated for more vigilance and tighter enforcement at the border and within the trucking sector. “CTA applauds CACP for its leadership. We will continue working with CACP on securing the border, protecting the supply chain, and strengthening federal-provincial programs addressing critical public safety issues,” said Geoff Wood, CTA Senior VP, Policy.
This joint stance underscores the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the trucking industry to protect Canadians and safeguard cross-border trade.
