Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, QC — At a time when border security is a growing concern between Canada and the United States, the partnership between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is proving vital. On April 21 and 22, members of the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) and CBSA officers from Highway 15’s port of entry conducted a joint operation.
Primary Objective: Inspect goods leaving Canada that are prohibited, controlled, or regulated before entering the U.S., including:
• Firearms and other prohibited weapons;
• Undeclared currency or monetary instruments;
• Cannabis products.
Officers were also alert for indicators linked to child abductions or other criminal activity.
Operation Highlights:
• Nearly 70 vehicles searched;
• Drugs and a passport seized;
• $150,000 in fines issued;
• Intelligence gathered for ongoing investigations.
Beyond the immediate results, this successful operation laid the groundwork for future collaboration and targeted enforcement actions.
“This is a clear example of teamwork in action, and the importance of staying vigilant at our exit points,” said an IBET representative.
