Montreal, April 30, 2025 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has intercepted a significant shipment of 641.83 kg of suspected cannabis at the Montreal Marine and Rail Services facility. The shipment, valued at over CAD $4.8 million, was found hidden inside pallet bags placed in cardboard boxes at the bottom of a shipping container bound for Spain.

During the inspection, CBSA officers uncovered the concealed contraband and promptly seized the illicit cargo. The case has since been handed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for further investigation.

“This seizure clearly demonstrates that we will not tolerate our borders being used for criminal activity,” stated Éric Lapierre, Regional Director General for Quebec at CBSA. “Our agency remains committed to protecting our communities by intercepting contraband and securing Canada’s borders.”
The CBSA emphasizes that despite the legalization of cannabis in Canada, its import or export without a permit or exemption authorized by Health Canada remains a serious criminal offense, subject to arrest and prosecution.
