MARKDALE — The Ontario government has announced a major investment of more than $200 million by Chapman’s, Canada’s largest independent ice cream manufacturer, to expand operations and build a new facility in Markdale. This expansion will create 200 jobs and strengthen Ontario’s agri-food sector.
“I am thrilled about Chapman’s latest investment in Ontario, a clear sign of confidence in our economy and workers,” said Premier Doug Ford.
The new 175,000-square-foot plant will increase production capacity, allow the creation of new products, and help Chapman’s meet growing demand both across Canada and internationally. With this expansion, the company will employ more than 1,000 people in Ontario.

“This expansion comes at a key moment,” said Ashley Chapman, Chief Operating Officer. “Competition from multinationals has intensified in recent years, and this project will help us strengthen our market position.”
Supported by Ontario’s Investment Fund with $27 million, the project highlights the province’s commitment to growing its key industries, fostering innovation, and ensuring well-paid jobs for the future.
