The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced the results of its 2025 International Roadcheck, a 72-hour inspection campaign conducted from May 13–15 across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. In total, 56,178 inspections were carried out on commercial vehicles, drivers, and cargo.
Compliance Remains High
Most vehicles and drivers passed inspection without issue:
• 81.6% of vehicles and 94.1% of drivers had no out-of-service (OOS) violations.
However, inspectors identified 13,553 vehicle, 3,317 driver, and 177 hazardous materialsviolations. This led to 10,148 vehicles and 3,342 drivers being placed out of service.
Brakes and Tires Top the Violation List
Brake system defects were the top cause of OOS violations, accounting for 24.4% of cases. Tire issues ranked second, representing 21.4% (2,899 violations).
CVSA emphasized that defective tires—such as those underinflated or with exposed cords—pose major safety risks and can lead to loss of control or crashes.
Driver Violations: Fatigue and False Logs
Hours-of-service violations were the most common reason for driver OOS orders, making up 32.4%of the total. Additionally, 10% of driver violations were due to false records of duty status (RODS), a serious infraction that conceals true working hours and undermines safety compliance.
Hazardous Materials Infractions
Among HM/DG violations, loading and securement issues were most frequent, accounting for 28.8%of all OOS citations. Proper securement is essential to prevent leaks, spills, or other dangerous incidents.
Keeping Roads Safe Across North America
The CVSA’s International Roadcheck highlights key areas of enforcement each year—in 2025, tires and false driver logs. Since 1988, the initiative has resulted in over 1.8 million inspections, ensuring that only safe commercial vehicles and qualified drivers are on the road.
