Portland, June 2, 2025 — Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is recalling 21,560 Western Star trucks due to a potential fire hazard, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The affected units include 2021–2026 Western Star 47X and 2020–2026 Western Star 49Xmodels. The issue stems from a potentially misinstalled positive junction point stud, which could lead to a short circuit, the manufacturer stated in its recall notice.

Drivers may experience slow or no crank during ignition and may visually notice corrosion around the stud or cable lug, signaling a possible issue before an incident occurs. While no injuries or fatalitieshave been reported, several trucks experienced burnt or melted components, some of which were already addressed under warranty.

Daimler initiated the recall on May 12, and shortly after, the company updated its manufacturing process and added new inspections to verify correct installation.

Repairs will be provided free of charge at Daimler Truck North America authorized service centers. The company says a remedy program is in development.
