Detroit has introduced the DT12-VL, the latest member of its automated manual transmission lineup, purpose-built for heavy-duty vocational applications where payload is paramount.
The new model delivers enhanced off-road performance, improved drivability, and a 125-pound weight reduction compared to the DT12-V, ensuring operators get maximum payload without compromising durability.
Key specifications
• Torque rating: 1,650 lb-ft
• Rear PTO
• Gear ratio range: 11.67 (1st gear) to 0.78 (top gear)
• 12 forward speeds, up to 4 reverse speeds
• Supports gross combination weights up to 80,000 lb
Aaron Scates, vice president of vocational and medium-duty market development for Daimler Trucks North America, said the DT12-VL “is a testament to our commitment to vocational customers and our ability to innovate on proven solutions.”
Built for real-world challenges
Detroit’s new transmission comes equipped with three standard features designed to enhance control and performance:
• Off-Road Mode keeps gears longer for better momentum on rough terrain.
• Rock Free Mode modulates the clutch to help free stuck vehicles while reducing driveline stress.
• Paver Mode allows seamless shifts from Neutral to Drive without brake input, ensuring smooth paving operations.
With the DT12-VL, Detroit continues to push boundaries in vocational trucking technology, combining strength, precision, and efficiency in a lighter package.
