Montreal, September 25, 2025 – Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has announced updates to Stream 1 of the Energy-Efficient Freight Transportation Program (EEFTP), set to take effect on September 12, 2025. The revisions are designed to reflect current market trends and industry demands.

The EEFTP supports fleets in cutting fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Under Stream 1, companies may receive up to $250,000 per applicant to cover third-party fleet energy assessments as well as retrofits for eligible trucks and/or trailers.

Continuous intake process

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis from December 12, 2022, until March 31, 2027, or until all funds are allocated. Funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and is allotted by fiscal year.

Flexibility and market adaptation

NRCan retains the right to modify the Applicant’s Guide with three months’ notice, particularly to address inflation or evolving market conditions. Updates will apply only to new applications submitted after the changes take effect.

With these updates, the federal government aims to encourage the freight industry to adopt cleaner technologies, lower operating costs, and strengthen overall competitiveness.
