The massive $6.4B Gordie Howe International Bridge project between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan is now structurally complete, marking a major step toward its highly anticipated fall 2025 opening.

When finished, it will hold the title of longest cable-stayed bridge span in North America, significantly boosting cross-border transportation and trade.

Two towering cranes, once iconic over the Detroit River, have now been (or are being) taken down to clear the path for final works. The Canadian crane was removed in May, while the U.S. crane is currently being dismantled this summer — slightly behind schedule.

Despite the delay, crews are racing to ensure the bridge is ready to welcome vehicles by fall 2025, offering a new and efficient route for Ontario drivers entering the U.S.
