VIGO COUNTY, Ind. — Earlier today, Governor Mike Braun, joined by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles, and several public officials, cut the ribbon on the brand-new Clear Creek Welcome Center located eastbound on Interstate 70, just a few miles from the Indiana/Illinois state line.
“The new Clear Creek Welcome Center showcases Indiana’s deep roots in racing and provides a warm welcome for travelers entering the Crossroads of America,” said Gov. Braun. “This state-of-the-art facility is a destination for Hoosiers and visitors alike.”

Replacing the old 1992 facility, the modern welcome center draws its inspiration from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. It features interactive exhibits including a replica Borg-Warner Trophy, a scoring pylon, an authentic IndyCar, and racing helmets — including one donated by IndyCar driver Kyffin Simpson, who attended the event and helped cut the ribbon.
The facility also includes new recreation areas for adults and children, a walking path, a dog park, and expanded semi-truck parking — now offering 128 spaces, a 78-space increase over the previous site.
According to INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist, the Clear Creek project is part of a broader $600 million infrastructure plan covering 20 rest areas, welcome centers, and truck parking sites to be completed by FY 2034.

“The goal of INDOT’s overall plan is to provide safe, informative locations for travelers to rest, relax, and recharge,” Quist said. “In addition to Clear Creek, we’re looking forward to opening the Black River Welcome Center on I-64 later this year.”
Construction, which began in spring 2023, was led by Hannig Construction of Terre Haute. The new Clear Creek Welcome Center officially opens to the public at 4 p.m. today at mile marker 2 eastbound on I-70.
