Montreal, June 4, 2025 – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) today officially unveiled its new Zone • Zérostrategy, a targeted road safety intervention aimed at reducing fatal and serious injury crashes on 10 critical road segments across the province.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD), and Contrôle routier Québec (CRQ), identifies highways and regional routes where action is urgently needed.
Among the locations: Route 117 between Ontario and La Vérendrye Park, various stretches of Highway 50 near Gatineau and Mirabel, portions of Highway 20, Routes 138, 155, 241, 116, and more.
Zone • Zéro targets key collision factors like speeding, driver impairment, distraction, and unsafe behavior. The plan includes increased patrol enforcement, customized awareness campaigns, and public outreach to encourage safer driving habits.
Each site meets specific criteria: a history of at least two fatal or serious crashes in the past five years, ongoing risk factors, and high usage by vulnerable road users such as young drivers, seniors, pedestrians, and motorcyclists.
The SQ emphasizes that most serious crashes are preventable, reinforcing the need for personal accountability on the road.
This effort supports Quebec’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate traffic deaths in the coming years.
