Autonomous trucks and hydrogen propulsion are each disruptive in their own right—but combined, they could redefine the logistics landscape. Hyundai Motor Company and self-driving tech leader Plus are teaming up to explore that very synergy.

Their initiative envisions a new era in freight transportation, one that minimizes environmental impact while addressing critical labor shortages. By equipping hydrogen fuel cell trucks with autonomous driving systems, Hyundai and Plus aim to reduce operational costs and create more reliable, sustainable supply chains.

This move places them alongside other major players—such as Aurora, Scania, and Amazon—who are pushing boundaries in autonomous freight. However, Hyundai and Plus stand out for merging autonomy with a zero-emission energy source, offering a dual solution to two of the industry’s biggest pain points: emissions and driver availability.

While still in early stages, this partnership signals a major step forward, suggesting the next generation of trucking won’t just be cleaner—it might drive itself.
