SAINT CLOUD, Fla. — A tragic crash early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 28-year-old man after his car became trapped beneath a semi-truck attempting a U-turn, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) confirmed.

The collision occurred just before 4:45 a.m. on E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (U.S. 192) near Bradley Drive. According to troopers, the semi-truck — identified in local footage as a Publix truck — was traveling eastbound and moved into the left turn lane to make a U-turn.

In the process, the truck blocked both westbound lanes of the highway. A Honda Accord traveling westbound struck the right side of the truck, sending the car underneath the semi where it came to a final stop.

The 28-year-old driver of the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was uninjured and remained at the crash site.

Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of U.S. 192 while investigators worked to piece together the events leading up to the deadly crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
