Operation Safe Driver Week: Manitoulin OPP Recap

Manitoulin, August 6, 2025 — From July 13 to 19, 2025, the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and road safety partners, conducted a week-long enforcement initiative focused on commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety.

Officers performed several traffic stops and inspections throughout Manitoulin Island and Espanola. These efforts led to a number of CMV-related charges and educational conversations around load security, unsafe driving habits, and documentation issues. CMV drivers were also subject to Mandatory Alcohol Screening (MAS) as part of the operation.

CMV drivers bear a unique responsibility due to the size and impact of their vehicles. The Manitoulin OPP remains fully committed to protecting all road users.
