Portland, OR — A recent enforcement blitz by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT)has resulted in over 100 truck drivers being placed out-of-service after attempting to illegally bypass open weigh stations along Interstate 84.

The targeted enforcement took place in late April and early May 2025 at multiple locations, including the Cascade Locks, Umatilla, and Farewell Bend Ports of Entry, as well as the La Grande and Emigrant Hill Weigh Stations.

According to ODOT, more than 490 commercial vehicle operators were stopped after they attempted to avoid required inspections at open weigh stations. The Oregon State Police intercepted and escorted the drivers back to the facilities for compliance checks.

Upon inspection, 122 drivers (approximately 25%) were ordered out-of-service for a range of safety and regulatory violations. Officers identified serious issues including tampered electronic logging devices (ELDs), falsified logbooks, and other violations related to licensing and hours-of-service regulations.

“Drivers placed out-of-service were temporarily prohibited from operating their commercial vehicles until all violations were addressed,” said ODOT in a statement. “The inspections also included thorough checks of the vehicles to ensure compliance with state and federal safety standards.”

These operations highlight Oregon’s continued efforts to crack down on unsafe driving practices and reinforce the importance of regulatory compliance within the commercial trucking industry.
