Montreal, May 2025 — In December 2024, the PIT Group from FPInnovations conducted a comparative field test to assess the performance of a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia sleeper cab truck equipped with the new Cummins X15N compressed natural gas (CNG) engine. The test compared this truck against its diesel counterpart powered by the Cummins X15.

The results are promising: the CNG truck achieved up to 21% fuel cost savings and up to 12% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, with no major compromise on power or performance. These findings underscore the potential of CNG-powered trucks to reduce operational costs while contributing to fleet sustainability goals.
