SOUTHERN ONTARIO — A major winter storm expected to stay mostly south of the border may now clip parts of Southern Ontario from Sunday into Monday. Confidence has increased after new aircraft-recon data (a Hurricane Hunters-type mission into the Pacific system) was ingested into weather models, helping them better resolve track and intensity.
What we’re watching
Several forecast discussions indicate a trend toward Southern Ontario being inside the higher-impact envelope, though the exact storm track is still not locked in — and small shifts can dramatically change totals by region.
Areas that could see the biggest impacts
• GTA / Toronto–Hamilton corridor: potential for heavier, lake-enhanced snow, with sharp total differences over short distances.
• Lake Ontario corridor (incl. Niagara/Hamilton and potentially toward Eastern Ontario depending on track): higher totals possible if lake enhancement sets up.
• SW Ontario into Eastern Ontario: steadier snow possible, with the worst corridor still dependent on final track.
(Official public forecasts may still look conservative at this range and can change quickly as warnings are issued.)
Trucking checklist for the next hours
• Trip plan with a stronger-impact scenario in mind (timing, parking options, alternates).
• Monitor live road conditions via Ontario 511 for closures/incidents and travel info (mobile app available).
• Expect rapid deteriorations near the lakes (visibility + blowing snow).
• Dispatch/ops: build in buffers and contingency routing for major corridors.
