Montreal, August 28, 2025 – Following a series of extremely serious road accidents that have shocked Quebecers, the Quebec Trucking Association (ACQ) is urging the provincial government to act swiftly and restore roadside enforcement operations conducted by Contrôle routier Québec (CRQ). These unplanned inspections have been suspended since March 6, 2025, by order of the Administrative Labour Tribunal.
According to the ACQ, this suspension has created a dangerous gap in enforcement, at a time when Quebec’s highways are increasingly used by incorporated drivers hired by companies that deliberately ignore safety rules. The association warns that these “accident-prone” practices tarnish the reputation of an industry that has long placed safety at the forefront of its operations.
In a letter sent this morning to Premier François Legault, Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport Geneviève Guilbault, and Public Security Minister François Bonnardel, the ACQ reiterated its demand for action. The association is calling on the government to make the “Chauffeur Inc.” scheme a top priority, while granting CRQ the full authority required to carry out its mandate.
“Roadside inspections are a critical tool in our fight against the Chauffeur Inc. problem, and their suspension is a significant setback for public safety,” the ACQ stressed.
