Eastern Ontario — Since Tuesday, the Ontario Provincial Police (East Region) and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) have been carrying out a joint enforcement initiative on Highway 401, aiming to improve safety on provincial highways.

On the first day of inspections:
• 363 visual inspections were conducted;
• 10 detailed CVSA inspections were carried out;
• 7 tow trucks were inspected (all passed);
• 35 alcohol screening tests were administered (no violations);
• 2 commercial vehicles were taken out of service;
• 9 tickets were issued for various infractions.
Officers also intercepted five commercial vehicles attempting to bypass the inspection sites and MTO scales by using a secondary road.
Authorities emphasize that road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and such initiatives will continue in the region.
