This old Mack truck, dented, rusted, and scarred from years of service, is far from ordinary. Its story carries the weight of one of America’s darkest days.

On September 11, 2001, tragedy struck. In the days that followed, Mack Trucks decided to help the only way it knew how: with trucks. Five vehicles were built and donated to the New York City Department of Sanitation to support the cleanup efforts at Ground Zero.

This particular Mack RD – serial number one – hauled unimaginable amounts of debris. Now 24 years later, it is retired at the Mack Museum, standing as a reminder of sacrifice, resilience, and the determination to rebuild.

On this anniversary, we pay tribute to the lives lost and renew our vow: we will never forget.
