Alexandria, VA — The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has announced that its President, Jim Ward, will retire in the coming months after a successful tenure at the head of the organization. His departure marks the conclusion of a distinguished career dedicated to the trucking industry and follows a planned succession process.

Appointed President in 2022, Ward played a central role in expanding TCA’s programs, strengthening its influence, and enhancing member engagement. Under his leadership, TCA solidified its position as a unified and respected voice for the North American truckload sector.

“This decision has been in the works for some time, and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” said Ward. “TCA is strong, its future is bright, and I look forward to watching the Association continue to grow and flourish in the years ahead.”

To ensure a smooth transition, TCA has created a search committee responsible for selecting Ward’s successor. The committee is committed to finding a leader capable of continuing TCA’s mission, building relationships in Washington, and embracing innovation and technology.

“Jim’s leadership has had a lasting impact on TCA and the entire truckload industry,” said Karen Smerchek, TCA Chairman and President of Veriha Trucking. “This transition reflects the next step in a carefully considered succession plan, and we are deeply grateful for the stability and strength Jim has brought to the Association.”

The search is now underway, and interested candidates are invited to apply by submitting resumes and cover letters to truckloadpresident@gmail.com.
