A new report from factoring service altLine shows that a shortage of roughly 24,000 truck drivers is costing the freight industry an estimated $95.5 million each week.

According to the analysis, if every registered truck were operational, the industry could generate up to $47.4 billion in annual revenue.

The study examined data from November 22 to December 5, 2024, reviewing 28,515 truck driver job postings listed on Google for Jobs and salary data from LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter, Monster, and other public platforms.

While online postings highlight thousands of open positions, they represent only part of the picture. Research by job platform Zippia found that just 25% of truck driving jobs are posted online, with 70% of hires happening through personal connections, staffing agencies, and other offline methods.

On average, 7,213 truck driver jobs were advertised daily during the study period, pointing to a persistent shortfall of about 24,043 drivers.
