Washington, May 28, 2025 — U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today announced over $1.5 billion in federal funding to support emergency repairs to transportation infrastructure damaged by natural disasters, with over $683 million designated to address destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.

The funds, administered through the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief (ER) Program, will support the reconstruction of federal-aid highways and roads in 36 states, as well as in the District of Columbia, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, this Department will leave no state behind,” said Secretary Duffy. “We are streamlining project approvals to help communities rebuild faster. Just within the first 100 days, we’ve launched repairs on North Carolina’s I-40, a major route washed out by Hurricane Helene—saving hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars.”

Funding highlights include:

North Carolina: $415M (over $400M for Hurricane Helene)

Tennessee: $227M (over $178M for Hurricane Helene)

South Carolina: $68.8M (over $50M for Hurricane Helene)

Florida: $44.6M (over $43M for Hurricanes Milton, Helene, and Debby)

Georgia: $26.4M (including $23M for Hurricane Helene)

According to FHWA Chief Counsel Jay Payne, “We are committed to restoring transportation links nationwide and providing safe travel for all citizens affected by extreme weather events.”

The full list of allocations for FY2025 is available on the Federal Highway Administration’s website.
