A tragic multi-vehicle collision on I-75 in northern Georgia has sparked a call for reform from the family of one of the victims. Mason Powell, a 23-year-old former high school football standout from Florida, was among the three people killed when a semi truck crossed the median after colliding with a sedan, triggering a deadly chain reaction.

The accident also claimed the life of 50-year-old truck driver William West.

In the aftermath, Mason’s family is channeling their grief into advocacy. They are calling for federal legislation mandating driver-facing cameras in commercial trucks to monitor behavior and increase accountability behind the wheel.

“This isn’t about blame. It’s about prevention,” the family stated. They have partnered with the Truck Safety Coalition, a non-profit dedicated to reducing deaths and injuries caused by truck-related crashes. Together, they are urging lawmakers to act swiftly on mandatory in-cab monitoring and stronger safety enforcement across the industry.
