The Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada (WTFC) appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (TRAN) as part of its ongoing study on the changing landscape of truck drivers in Canada.

Representing professionals from across the industry, WTFC called for an end to misclassification schemes like Driver Inc., which undermine safety, fairness, and public trust.

Johanne Couture stated:

Driver Inc. isn’t innovation — it’s exploitation dressed up as flexibility. It punishes compliance, erodes safety, and puts every Canadian road user at risk.

Shelley Walker, WTFC CEO, added:

Misclassification schemes like Driver Inc. are driving out equity, integrity, and safety. If we want trucking to be a profession Canadians can be proud of, we must end the exploitation now.

WTFC’s message is clear: let’s protect workers, restore integrity, and make trucking a profession built on fairness and pride.
